As her country continues to mourn the only regent they’ve ever known, newspapers in the U.K. and all over the world paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II.

Some publications used images from when the queen was newly crowned at her coronation in June 1953. Others used more recent photos showing an elder monarch after more than half a century of service to her country.

The Times and The Sunday Times honored the queen’s life of service.

The Daily Mail had a headline that reflects how many people are feeling — “our hearts are broken” — and called her “our guiding light in the darkest of nights.”

The newspaper also shared several illustrations honoring the queen’s love for her husband.

The Daily Telegraph shared the words the queen said after the 9/11 attacks on America — “Grief is the price we pay for love.” It was also reused when she lost her husband, Prince Philip, last year, Sky News reported.

The Guardian simply showed her coronation portrait and “Queen Elizabeth II, 1926-2022.”

The Daily Mirror printed “Thank You” in its tribute to Queen Elizabeth.

While The Sun sent a message, “We loved you Ma’am.”

The Herald from Scotland shared an image of the queen in green royal regalia looking out at the countryside.

The New York Times led with the headline “Queen and spirit of Britain.” It also posted an image of the newspaper’s front page when the queen first took the throne upon the death of her father King George VI.

The Washington Post’s headline — “A pillar of duty and devotion” — was accompanied by a photo of the queen from her younger years. The newspaper also shared historic front pages from when the queen ascended and when she was coronated.

The Wall Street Journal said the queen’s “reign stood out in era of change.”

USA Today’s weekend edition is a tribute to the Queen.
