‘Murder, She Wrote’ actor Ron Masak dies at 86

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Ron Masak, best known for his role as Cabot Cove Sheriff Mort Metzger on “Murder, She Wrote,” died Thursday at 86.

Masak died of natural causes at a hospital in Thousand Oaks and was surrounded by his wife, Kay, and his six children, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

His acting career on film and television spanned several decades, from a supporting role in the 1968 film “Ice Station Zebra” to his recurring role as the Cadillac-driving Sheriff Mort Metzger on “Murder, She Wrote.”

He was known as the “King of Commercials” through the 80s and 90s for his many commercial advertising appearances.

His death comes nine days after actor Angela Lansbury’s death. Lansbury died on Oct. 11 at 96.
